WIND CHILL ADVISORY / WARMING SHELTER
Posted on: February 3, 2023 - 2:28pm
Dear Enfield Residents,
With the severe cold the Enfield Police Department would like to remind you that if you are without heat you are welcome to call 603-643-2222 to speak with an officer and get information about the town’s Warming Shelter.
Some tips on preventing pipes from freezing:
- Keep garage doors closed, especially if there are water supply lines located in your garage.
- Open kitchen and bathroom cabinet doors to allow warmer air to circulate around the plumbing, especially if your sinks are on an exterior wall.
- Let the cold-water drip from a faucet served by exposed pipes.
- Keep your thermostats set to the same temperature day and night.
Here are some safety tips on electric portable space heaters from the National Fire Prevention Agency:
- Purchase a heater with the seal of a qualified testing laboratory.
- Keep the heater at least 3 feet away from anything that can burn, including people.
- Choose a heater with a thermostat and overheat protection.
- Place the heater on a solid, flat surface.
- Make sure your heater has an auto shut-off to turn the heater off if it tips over.
- Keep space heaters out of the way of foot traffic. Never block an exit.
- Keep children away from the space heater.
- Plug the heater directly into the wall outlet. Never use an extension cord.
- Space heaters should be turned off and unplugged when you leave the room or go to bed.
Stay safe, stay warm – and our emergency departments are here if you need us!
Sincerely,
Emily
