Mascoma Lake - Reports of Suspected Cyanobacteria Blooms

Thanks to everyone around Mascoma Lake who reported suspected cyanobacteria blooms over the last few days.  Here is the latest update from the NH Department of Environmental Services as of today, Tuesday, June 13:

Several samples were collected from around Mascoma yesterday following reports on Friday and this weekend. The samples all had low cyanobacteria density, not near our advisory level. This bloom appears to be spotty - showing up along shorelines occasionally and then passing with changing conditions. It is likely you will continue to see aggregations over the next several days. If you see it worsening or continuing, please report it to us and we will sample again. As always, if you see green accumulations or any scums, please stay out of the water and keep pets out.

We encourage anyone who sees possible algae blooms to use the new DES report form at the link above.  If possible, take several photos to post along with the form and get a sample of the water.  The water is safe, but we all need to keep our eyes open!
