PRESS RELEASE

For Immediate Release

Authority: Chief Phil Neily

February 15, 2022

On February 14, 2022, at approximately 1:00pm, a member of the Enfield Police Department was patrolling the area of Shaker Hill Road when he saw smoke and called in an active fire at 17 Wells Street.

The first units arrived on scene at approximately 1:14pm and reported smoke showing from the building and called for a second alarm. The fire was throughout the building and a defensive attack was started. There was extensive damage to the balloon frame construction two-family home which was built around 1880.

In conjunction with the New Hampshire Fire Marshall’s Office, a determination was made that the building should be taken down due to damage and to accomplish full extinguishment.

The family that occupied half of the duplex were not home at the time and are being helped by the Red Cross. The second unit was occupied on a part time basis, and no one was there at the time of the fire.

The cause of the fire will remain undetermined due to the extensive damage.

The Enfield Fire Department would like to thank all of our mutual aid partners that provided manpower at the scene and coverage.
