Enfield Public Library Update

Greetings,

The Library Trustees and the Librarian hope you are all safe and well as we move into another week of this pandemic.  As you know, we made the difficult decision to close the Library until April 4th, at which time we will reevaluate the situation based on the information available at that time.  The Librarian subsequently offered to allow patrons to request books for pickup on the Library’s porch.  We have had some requests for that service and have been glad to be able to help.  Unfortunately,  there is no definitive guidance telling one how to clean a book prior to safely recirculating it.  Additionally, the Trustees have some concerns about the staff continuing to handle books that have been circulated when information about how long the virus lives on paper is conflicting.

With that said, the Trustees and Librarian have made the difficult decision to stop lending books while the library is closed.  This is not something we wanted to do, but we feel it is prudent for both our patrons and the Librarian.  If you have books checked out now, please do not bring them back until after we open.  Any fines will be waved while the library is closed.

We all wish this wasn’t necessary and ask your patience and indulgence as the information continues to evolve and we react accordingly.  Thank you and be well.
