Education

While the vast majority of education is handled by the schools (and is not included in this strategic governance initiative), a number of town departments offer programs that are educational in nature. These include Recreation, Police, and the Library.

The library, as part of transitioning to a library for the 21st century (although housed in limited space designed for an older library mission), offers a variety of education-focused programming:

  • Children’s programs such as: weekly story times for ages 0-6, Make It Take It crafts, Summer Reading activities, and regularly scheduled visits from EVS and Mascoma Cooperative Pre-school. These children’s programs drew close to 3,000 attendees in 2017.
  • Adult programs including: monthly book group, lectures on various topics, plays and concerts that drew close to 1,000 attendees last year.
  • Finally, the library is shifting its collection to more digitized materials, many of which are educational in nature, and is adding more digital technology along with instruction.

The Police Department offers a range of educational and prevention programs for citizens of all ages. These programs enrich the fabric of life and foster a strong sense of community.
