Frequently Asked Questions

Here are answers to a few of the more frequently asked questions that this office has received:

How often will trash/recycling be picked up?  Both trash and recycling will be picked up on the same day, every other week.  For example, my street was scheduled for a Monday pick-up, we will not receive service again for another 2 weeks.

Can I change the size of my containers?  Residents do have a choice; we have 32, 64 or 96 gallon containers available for both trash and recycling.  You may call my office to inquire about changing.

How long is the contract with Casella?  Our contract with Casella is for 5 years with an option for another 5 years.  The Town and Casella both have the ability to stop the contract after five years.

Where do I place my containers in the snow?  We ask that you place the containers as close to the road edge as possible.  We understand that there may be times after a heavy snow event when the roads narrow.   If a container is damaged in any way due to a plow hitting the container, please contact the Town.

Will the Transfer Station hours be cut?  We have no intention of adjusting the hours of operation at the Transfer Station.   We recognize that there is a sizable portion of our community that will still want to take advantage of this resource.

Will the Transfer Station be zero-sort for recyclables?  Yes, the goal is to transition into a zero-sort facility.  We will make an announcement when this change occurs.

What do I do if I have not received my containers?  If you have not received your containers, please contact the Town as soon as you can.  There are a few roads and homes that have not received containers.  You may place your trash and recycling at your normal place, if that was at your curb, then place it there, if it was at a collection point, place it there.  We anticipate having all of the containers distributed within the next week.

What is this costing the Town?  We are incorporating this new program into our existing 2013 budget, and it will not be costing the Town any additional funds.  We are confident, based on other communities’ experience, that we will see a reduction in our disposal costs going forward.

I believe that we are off to a great start, and once again would like to thank everyone for their patience as we transition to this new trash/recycling program.
