Town Manager Update - October 31, 2014
Town Manager’s Report                                                   Oct. 31, 2014

Happy Halloween,

First, I would like to express my most sincere thanks for 9 wonderful years serving as your Town Manager.  While my official start date was November 1st, 2005, I snuck in the day before and had a soft opening on Halloween.  These past 9 years have been the most fulfilling and satisfying of my professional career, and I am ever grateful.

The Town has recently experienced something that has not happened in 38 years; we have a new librarian.  Marjorie Carr ended her tenure as Librarian last Thursday.  A wonderful reception was held in her honor at the Shaker Museum.  Words and tears were shared at the reception as we honored a true Enfield star.  The Library Trustee’s hired Melissa Huston as the new Librarian.  Melissa is an Enfield resident and started this past Monday.  Melissa has her Master’s in Library Science and has a wealth of library experience that will be well suited for the future success of the Enfield Public Library.  Please afford Melissa the same generous welcome you gave to me when I started working for Enfield.

You will see more notice of this in the newspaper and on our website; the Enfield Public Works Department will be hosting an open house next Saturday at the DPW facility on Lockehaven Rd.  This will be a great opportunity to see up close the equipment that services our public works infrastructure.  While I cannot promise any test drives of the equipment, certainly a seat behind the wheel of one of the big rigs can be guaranteed.  As if the open house were not enough to entice you to visit the DPW facility, the Town will also be hosting a silent auction of surplus office items in addition to over a dozen bicycles of various sizes.  A full list of the auction items is available at Whitney Hall, and on the town website –  The last time we had a silent auction I came home with a computer and a box of paper for $2, bargains are guaranteed.

Finally a couple of reminders, first, the Selectboard will be meeting on Monday at the DPW facility.  We have a full agenda, including a discussion with NH DOT about the status of the Main St. / Rail Trail project.  Second, and more important, the polls for the election on Tuesday will be open from 8am to 7pm at Whitney Hall.  If you are flexible in when you can vote, the slow times are mid-morning and mid-afternoon.

Have a great Halloween and stay warm.

Steve Schneider
