Town Manager Update - October 18, 2013

I offer the following from three of our departments:

Police:  Det. Sgt. Ken May was recently recognized by the Grafton/Sullivan County Child Advocacy Center at Dartmouth for his dedicated service helping child victims and their families.

Public Works:  The Highway Department finished paving parts of the Ambulance and Fire Station parking lots.  The roadside mowing has been completed and the crew is grading and removing leaves from ditches and drainage structures.  A reminder to property owners, please do not rake leaves into ditches.  The Town operates a composting facility for grass clippings, leaves and non-woody garden waste.  The Grounds Crew is doing cleanup work in the parks and cemeteries.  The Water and Sewer Department is finishing up flushing hydrants around the village.  If you experience low or no pressure it should last only 15-20 minutes.

Recreation:  Play Mascoma Valley! recreation guides have been published!  Look for them in backpacks coming home with kids from school, and at your town office or local library.  You can also find it on the town website on the "Recreation" page.  This is a great way to find out what's currently being offered by the recreation department and what is coming up in the future.  There is still time to check out that Insanity or Piloxing fitness class you've been meaning to check out, and Jamie Orr just started a brand new 6-week session of Line Dancing Instruction.  Stop by on Thursdays at the Community Lutheran Church on Main Street at 5:10pm for a fun line dancing lesson.  Next weekend on October 26th, join Mascoma Valley Parks & Recreation in Canaan for the first annual "Jack-o-Lantern Jog 5K Road Race" & "Kid's 1K Trick or Trot".  And definitely don't forget about the annual Children's Halloween Party sponsored by Enfield Recreation at the Enfield Fire Station on Union Street, Thursday, October 31st from 5pm-7pm.  Come in your Halloween costume for cider, snacks, lots of games and cookie decorating!  Adult basketball and volleyball "play for fun" pick-up games are starting up soon at MVRHS, so contact for more information about those activities or anything else mentioned above.  Play On!
We have a slew of upcoming meetings next week, including Selectboard on Monday night, CIP on Tuesday, Planning Board on Wednesday, TIF and Heritage on Thursday.  Have a great week.  Thanks.
