Town Manager Update - August 9, 2013
Greetings,

This week was the start of our new trash/zero-sort recycling program.  While we did have a few issues, for the most part the change was fairly smooth.  Here are the results from our first week:

Monday:         6.75 tons of trash, 3.77 tons of recycling
Tuesday:                7.41 tons of trash, 2.77 tons of recycling
Wednesday:      7.40 tons of trash, 3.06 tons of recycling
Total:          24.67 tons of trash, 12.24 tons of recycling

Overall this was a great first week in terms of our recycling rate and we diverted nearly 10% more of our waste to the recycling side.  We are available to address any issue you may have with the transition.  You may call us at 632-5026 or 632-4605.  We had about 20 people attend the Selectboard meeting last Monday night to share their experiences.  The message that was received was we did not do a good enough job of informing the public about the change.  I do apologize for that.  There are times when you get so deep into a project that you lose perspective and forget that not everyone has the same base of knowledge.

Mascoma Valley Parks & Recreation has started working on the Fall/Winter edition of Play Mascoma Valley!  To have your local organization or community event added to the next brochure, please e-mail mvalleyrec@gmail.com.  Our goal is to provide the community with a comprehensive guide of all the great activities and events happening in the Mascoma Valley.  Please provide your information no later than August 28th.

Coming up in August is the Play Field Hockey! camp from August 19th-23rd at the IRS playing fields.  Camp is open to students entering 4th through 8th grade, and runs from 9AM-12PM, Monday through Friday.  Camp fees are $50 and include a field hockey ball and camp t-shirt.  On Friday, August 23rd, we will be hosting an “Intro to Field Hockey” from 10AM-12PM.  “Intro to Field Hockey” is for 2nd and 3rd graders who have never played, but are interested in checking it out before they sign up for a season.

Coming up this fall, your recreation departments hope to offer a few new activities to include: line dancing, Insanity fitness classes, as well as several other fitness classes to choose from, and holiday craft making.  Be sure to watch for the online and print versions of Play Mascoma Valley! to come out in mid-September for more details.  And if you haven’t done so already, check out Mascoma Valley Parks & Recreation on Facebook for updates on current activities and to check out pictures of our past activities or events.  If you have time, take our brief survey to provide your input on the time, day, location and type of fitness classes we will be offering (the link is available on MVPRs Facebook page).  Fall and Winter doesn’t mean we put an end to recreation…stay tuned for upcoming events and activities, and contact mvalleyrec@gmail.com if you’re interested in starting an activity or program.  Play On!

Have a great week and enjoy Enfield.  Thanks

Steven Schneider
